Rye Native Drafted By Miami Marlins In First Round

RYE, N.Y. -- Colin Moran of Rye was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the first round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft last week.

The third baseman is currently a junior at the University of North Carolina. He is a finalist for the 2013 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award for the top amateur player int he county, and leads the NCAA with 86 runs batted in this season and is third in the country with 60 runs scored this year. He is batting .348 with 13 home runs, and was named the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. He led the University of North Carolina Tar Heels to the ACC Championship and the No. 1 overall seed in the College World Series.

"I could not be happier for Colin," said North Carolina head coach Mike Fox. "He has worked so hard to get to this point and to see it rewarded is a great feeling. Colin is a tremendous representative of the University of North Carolina baseball program."

The Tar Heels are currently playing South Carolina in the NCAA Super Regionals. The best-of-three series is currently tied at one game apiece, with Monday's deciding game postponed until Tuesday due to rain.
