A social media post threatening a potential school shooting in New Rochelle led to an increased police presence at area schools.

An investigation was launched on Sunday night by school and police officials, when an alleged post was made threatening a school shooting months after a 16-year-old was fatally stabbed during an incident on North Avenue.

According to school officials, the threat wasn’t deemed credible, but as a precaution, the New Rochelle Police Department still increased their presence outside of the high school, Isaac E. Young Middle School and Albert Leonard Middle School.

“The Snapchat posts investigated last night were deemed not to be a threat,” they said in a statement. “However, as a precaution, (the) New Rochelle Police Department will assign police to all schools this morning. As always, if you have any information regarding any threat toward a school, please call New Rochelle Police Department at (914) 654-2300 and New Rochelle School Security at (914) 576-4186.”

On Sunday, the district issued an email to parents alerting them of the potentially threatening social media post.

“This evening, district officials were made aware of a Snapchat post alleging that there is expected to be a school shooting tomorrow and telling other students not to go to school. The City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Police Department are investigating. We believe we have identified the student who made the Snapchat post, and we are following up with the student and the student's family. The threat assessment at this time is deemed to be low.”
