Seniors Cristina Buenahora, Miranda Van Dijk and Thomas White and junior Reetish Kapoor all brought home medals from the New York State Science Olympiad's Lower Hudson Regional Competition. The competition took place at Byram Hills High School on Feb. 9, where science research students competed against each other for honors based on their work. Buenahora and Van Dijk won first place in the Write It/Do It event, and Kapoor and White placed fifth in the Robotics event.

Junior Olivia Iles was awarded for her achievements at the Regeneron-Westchester Science and Engineering Fair. The event was held in early March and featured research projects of 350 students from 33 Westchester and Putnam County high schools. Iles won third place in the category of behavioral science for her project on synesthesia.

The five students were given awards by Superintendent Frank Alvarez at the April 16 Board of Education meeting. A Science Research Symposium featuring the work of these students and more will be held May 22 at 7 p.m. in the middle school multipurpose room.
