RYE, N.Y. - Rye High School has announced six of its students have been named as National Merit Scholar finalists for 2012. Rye seniors Molly Jordan, Alexander Mun, Leo Neuringer, Celia Palmer, Claire Pfister, and Gwendolyn Wiegold have been chosen as finalists based on their performance in both academic and extracirricular activies.
Seniors Molly Jordan and Alexander Mun were named as candidates for the Presidential Scholars Program earlier in the week.
The six students were originally named semifinalists in the fall based on their PSAT scores, and are now among around 15,000 other high school students throughout the nation eligible for the awards.
According to the district the National Merit Scholarship Program plans to cut the field of finalists in half in March, naming just over 8,000 students as National Merit Scholars.
