Yorktown High Boys Lacrosse Team Falls In State Championship Game

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - The Yorktown High boys lacrosse team was looking to bring home No. 8 Saturday - as in the program's eighth state title - but the 'Huskers couldn't get the job done, falling to Jamesville-DeWitt, 9-6, in the Class B state championship game, played at Middletown High School.

The game was close - always tied or a one-goal game - for the first three quarters. But the Rams built a three-goal lead with just 4:11 left in the fourth. Yorktown attempted a comeback, but the Rams went back up by the final margin with just 1:31 on the clock, effectively sealing the victory.

It was the third time these two have met in the state championship game, and was JD's first win in those games. The Huskers last beat the Rams in the 2014 title game.

Yorktown (16-7) was hurt by a Red Rams' goal off the game's opening faceoff - just six seconds in - as well as a crucial offsides call with 3:10 remaining, when the Huskers still had a chance. Yorktown had just scored to make it 8-6, and had won the ensuing faceoff, when the key call gave the ball - and momentum - back to Jamesville DeWitt (21-2). Yorktown coach Dave Marr was so irate he ended up kicking a water jug and getting tossed out of the game.
