Ossining Spartans Splash Past Yonkers

OSSINING, N.Y. – The Ossining Spartans Swim Team continued its winning ways Saturday in a 276-257 victory over visiting Yonkers at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center pool.

Ossining, which fielded about 85 swimmers against 60 from Yonkers in more than 60 swimming events, has been successful throughout the early season since opening with a 70-point victory over Tarrytown on Nov. 12.

Spartans Head Coach Mike Kane predicted early on that this would be a "break out year" for the team. Now in its fourth year, the Spartans boast a group of returning swimmers, many of whom take advantage of the six days per week of practice offered by the recreation center coaching that includes Kane and assistants Greg Bernstein, Noel Mowatt and Kevin Piacente, who offer individualized coaching.

Saturday’s Spartans blue ribbon winners include Karla Arevalo, Demi Bauer, Daniel Browne, Serafina Capasso, Alex Carrazzone, Ryann Englebracht, Sammy Englebracht, Marcelo Galindo, Ivonne Gomez, Mathias Gomez, Allison Hogan, Sarah Kamal, Yousef Kamal, Alexandra Kantrowitz, Thomas Kress,  Stella Meyerhoeffer, Vlad Moise, Sammy Novo, Thomas Overacker, Lilly Pawliczak, Christopher Rocco, Emily Rocco, Ryan Roksvold, Max Saich, Gabby Santana, Emma San Martin, Nico San Martin, Tara Tassio, Kenny Velez, Daniel Zhu, and Joshua Zhu.

The coaching staff welcomes kids of all ages to learn to swim and compete on the team. For more information, visit www.ossiningspartans.com or send queries to spartansswimming@gmail.com.
