Rye Police Commissioner Michael C. Corcoran Jr. said the home invasion occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Oakland Beach Avenue near Forest Avenue.

The Rye resident encountered the suspect on the stairs inside the home, Corcoran said on Wednesday.

The suspect is described as a young white female, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 125 pounds. The suspect was wearing a white sweatshirt, white cap and had a long blonde ponytail visible through the cap, according to police.

The homeowner yelled whereupon the suspect ran out the back door into the backyard and fled in an unknown direction, police said.

When retiring for the evening, the Rye Police Department urges residents to lock all doors and windows and set alarms. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Rye Police Department Detective Division at 914-967-1688 or the city police department's main number at 914-967-1234.
