"Safe and Healthy" Holidays in Rye Brook

RYE BROOK, NY - The Village of Rye Brook played host to Greenwich Hospital's "Safe and Healthy Holidays" program on Wednesday morning. The event was held at the Harrison room at 900 King Street and was committed to raising awareness towards the many dangers of the holiday season.

The program was coordinated by Kathy Carley-Spanier, the hospital's Director of Community Health. Carley-Spanier, a resident of Rye Brook, spoke about the hospital's obligation to serve the greater community.

"Since we serve residents of both Fairfield and Westchester county, it's important to offer programs over state borders" Carley-Spanier said.

The event featured four guest speakers, the first of which was Assistant Attorney General-in-Charge of Westchester Gary Brown. Brown spoke about the importance of maintaining your "financial health" during the holiday season.

Brown was followed by Joshua Hrabosky, a staff psychologist, and Erica Christ, who spoke about "maintaining an emotional balance" and "a healthy lifestyle" through the holidays.

"Often during this time people neglect both nutrition and fitness because of the stress" Christ said, "But in fact, those two things are vitally important to coping with the stress of the holiday season".

The program concluded with a presentation from Dr. Jeremy Barowsky about excessive holiday drinking.

"Due to the increase in social gatherings, the holiday season presents more opportunities to drink excessively," Barowsky said. Barowsky went on to discuss the importance of maintaining moderation, and using "sensible drinking habits".

According to Carley-Spanier, the program is part of Greenwich Hospital's campaign to become the "safest hospital in the country".
