Pay-By-Phone Parking May Be Coming To Scarsdale

Parking in Scarsdale may be about to get a little smarter – and easier – for motorists and shoppers, as the village plans to make use of a new mobile application that will simplify paying for parking.

According to village officials, Scarsdale will soon team up with Pango, a company that created a system that allows motorists to park and pay using their cell phones. Pango eliminates the need for parking machines, the need to rifle through vehicles for loose change, and can be customized and adjusted to fit one’s need.

The Village Board unanimously supported the agreement with Pango "based upon the convenience and security of paying for your parking via phone, which would quickly replace the parking meter." Coins will still be accepted at all meters once Pango is put into place.

Scarsdale becomes the latest municipality in the country that will begin using Pango daily, which takes more than 1,300,000 pay-by-phone transactions each month. In addition to the ability to pay for your parking without having to run to the meter, the Pango app can also tell motorists where parking is most sparse, which garages are the best value and where there is valet service.

Pango is also available to motorists parking in Bronxville and Tuckahoe.

Motorists need not have an iPhone or Android to make use of the features of Pango. Those without the latest technology can call from any registered phone with a pin number to arrange for the pay-by-phone function. The Pango app will allow motorists to opt-in to receive notifications 15 minutes prior to a parking session ending and can include as many vehicles as a user prefers.

Village officials said that there will be a brief program aired on the local cable stations further explaining the Pango process and features in the near future.
