There's a chance of freezing rain for much of the area with a Freezing Rain Advisory in effect for Putnam from 7 a.m. to noon Tuesday and in Dutchess from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory means periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Motorists should be prepared for slippery roads, should slow down and use caution while driving, the National Weather Service said in a Special Weather Statement.

In those northern areas, ice accumulations around a trace to a few hundredths of an inch of ice are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Northern Westchester and Rockland could also see some freezing rain up until around 9 a.m. when a changeover to rain is expected.

The temperature should stay around freezing throughout the overnight and into the early morning in Southern Westchester, with precipitation being all rain.

Up to three-quarters of an inch of rain could fall Tuesday, with the high temperature around 40.

Wednesday will be cloudy and warmer with a high in the mid-40s and a chance of more rain, mainly in the afternoon.
