Monmouth Regional High School Educator Nominated For National Teacher Of The Year A Monmouth County educator who was named New Jersey's teacher of the year could also get the same recognition nationally. Joe Nappi, a history and social studies teacher at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls, is one of four finalists for the 2024 National Teacher of the Year award, The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced. New Rochelle Native Richard Roundtree, Known For 'Shaft' Film Series, Dies Westchester native Richard Roundtree, who was known for portraying John Shaft in the popular "Shaft" film series and broke ground as one of the first Black action heroes, has died after a battle with cancer. Roundtree, who was born in New Rochelle in 1942, died on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 24 at the age of 81 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to numerous reports.  After beginning his acting career in 1963, Roundtree landed what many consider to be his most iconic role in the 1971 film "Shaft," in which he played Detective John Shaft. Pulitzer-Prize Winning Pittsburgh-Native Author, David McCullough Dies At 89 Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, David McCullough, died at the age of 89, on Sunday, August 7, according to his family.  He was surrounded by his five children in Hingham, Massachusetts, at the time of his passing, his family says.  "The McCullough family is very appreciative of the support during this difficult time and the support of his many readers throughout the years." Dropping The 'W' - Major PBS, NPR Producer Rebrands PBS carrier WGBH is dropping its affiliation with the “West” and is rebranding the station: GBH. The call letters stand for West Great Blue Hill - so named after the highest point in Boston. On Monday, Aug. 31, station owners said to better represent their digital audience, they’re dropping the “West.” More than half of GBH’s audience is through digital platforms, according to the company.’ GBH provides entertainment from the Cape to the Berkshires.
