Township Waiting On Weather To Reopen Skating Rink At Morris County Park A Morris County park is getting its own winter wonderland. Washington Township Mayor Matt Murrello announced on Facebook last week that the town will be offering ice skating on the infield of Palmer Park baseball field. Murello tells Daily Voice: "We can open it once Mother Nature freezes the ice and all our parks are open sunrise to sunset" The township asks residents only skate and not play hockey, and to stay off the surface until it is ready to use.  "Have fun, skate safely and maybe we can get more than a handful of skating days in this year," Murrello said.  Further updat…

One Dead, One Rescued After Skaters Fall Through Ice On Lake Near Route 1 One man was killed and another was rescued after the two fell through the ice on Rogers Lake, just north of Route 1 (Boston Post Road), in Old Lyme late Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the two were ice skating. Harry Jewett, 60, of Old Lyme, did not resurface. After a search-and-rescue operation, his body was recovered around 4:30 p.m., state police said. His friend, Larry Buhl of North Haven, 51, was rescued after clinging to a chunk of ice while up to his shoulders in the freezing water, according to police. He was hospitalized with hypothermia.

The class will teach young students the fundamentals of ice skating technique, which include gliding, stopping, and skating backwards. Frozen: Private Frog Pond In Trumbull Is Open For Skating, Hockey TRUMBULL, Conn. — It might be frigid outside, but there's a positive side to that: The Frog Pond at the Nichols Improvement Association in Trumbull is now open for skating. "The pond is ready!" exclaims a Facebook post from the NIA in Trumbull.  The ice is thick enough on the pond to use it for ice skating and hockey.  "Shoveling to keep the ice clear of snow is appreciated as is taking any garbage with you and keeping the area clean," said a Facebook post. The rink is open only to members of the Nichols Improvement Association.
