Blaze Destroys Car On Saw Mill River Parkway In Hawthorne A car became completely engulfed in flames on a busy parkway in Northern Westchester.  The incident happened on Sunday, March 3 at around 10:15 a.m., when a car fire began on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Hawthorne, according to the Hawthorne Fire Department. Arriving crews found the car overtaken by flames but were quickly able to extinguish them. A tow truck then eventually removed the charred wreckage.  The response to the fire took around an hour. No injuries were reported.

Lifelong Member Of Hawthorne Fire Department, Army Vet Dies A community in Northern Westchester is mourning the loss of a lifelong firefighter who dedicated his life to public service.  Hawthorne resident Robert McKechnie died on Tuesday, May 16 at the age of 86, according to his obituary.  Born in 1937, McKechnie graduated from James Bryant High School in Queens and soon after graduation, went on begin a 40-year career at Pepsi.  He also served his country in the US Army from 1960 to 1962, and married his wife, Joan, not long after in 1964.  The couple first lived in Yonkers before moving to Hawthorne, where the…

Four Injured In Two-Vehicle Northern Westchester Crash, Police Say Four people suffered injuries in a crash in Northern Westchester County. A car and van were involved in the crash at around 1:50 p.m. Monday, July 12 on Saw Mill River Road in Mount Pleasant, according to Mount Pleasant Police. There were two occupants of each vehicle, police confirmed.  The Hawthorne Fire Department also responded to assist at the scene to help get the door of one of the vehicles open, said police. Police said the crash caused a backup on Route 9A, and the road was partially shut down for about 45 minutes.
