A 76-year-old man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting two dogs to death and neglecting several farm animals at his Long Island home. Carlos Lauro, of Riverhead, was arraigned on multiple charges at the Riverhead Town Justice Court on Thursday, Jan. 11. The father of the man who police say killed a Massachusetts State K9 officer named Frankie before turning the gun on himself has started a GoFundMe to pay for his son's funeral. Matthew Mack committed suicide Monday, July 26, after an hours-long standoff with police and SWAT team members, Massachusetts State Police said. An airport has become the first in the United States to test out COVID-19 detecting dogs. During the 30-day pilot program, the two dogs, named Cobra and One Betta, will help screen employees for COVID at Miami International Airport, the airport said in an announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
