The incident took place in Darien around 11:50 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. A Darien Police officer met with the victim in regard to the phone scam that had taken place the day before.  The victim told officers she received a phone call from a man claiming to be an employee of her bank. Montgomery Police Issue Alert On Checks Being Stolen From Mailboxes Police are alerting residents in the region about a string of mail and check thefts from mailboxes. The Town of Montgomery Police Department reported on Tuesday, May 10, that the issue has been reported in a number of jurisdictions in Orange and Dutchess counties. "Checks are being stolen and mobile deposited in various banks," the department said.  The department encouraged residents and businesses to avoid having checks delivered by mail or left in the mailbox. Police said anyone whose mail and/or checks are stolen should contact their local police department.

747 Employees To Be Laid Off From People's United Bank's CT Locations More than 700 employees of People's United Bank's Connecticut locations are set to be laid off. The Connecticut Department of Labor reported that between Oct. 1 of 2021 and May 20, 2022, 747 employees will be laid off.  The news comes after the company announced a merger with M&T Bank Corporation.
