Cain, 17, won easily in 4:07.05. Running in heightened altitude, Cain took control of the race with  three laps remaining and won by 2.88 seconds over Treniere Moser, who trains with Cain at the Nike Oregon project.

“I am super-duper pumped,” Cain said in a story posted on ArmoryTrack.com. "This was very exciting.  I was really happy it was a fast pace because it gives you confidence for the World Championships. I mean the world record was broken this year (Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba lowering it to 3:55.17.). That’s so awesome.  Now, it’s just a matter of seeing what I can do. I had no idea beforehand how this was going to turn out. Sure i was nervous. I knew I had a really great shot, but I still knew I really wanted to make the team.”

Cain’s victory gave her a spot on the U.S. team headed to the world championships on March 7 and 8 in Sopot, Poland.

Cain is ranked eighth in the world at the 1,500 meter. Her fastest time this year came in Boston in January, when she ran 4:06.83.
