WCC Girls' Relay Team Ties for First at Counties

RYE, N.Y. -- Nick Cavataro sent his 10-and-under girls’ 200 medley relay team into the final hoping they had fun Tuesday. Not only did Emmy Sammons, Paulina Harasimowicz, Olivia Scotti and Katie Keller have fun, the Westchester Country Club quartet finished in a first-place tie with the Coveleigh Club relay team at the 86th annual Westchester County Swimming Championships at Playland Pool.

The championships resume Wednesday and 4:30 p.m. and will conclude Thursday. Scotti, the elder stateswoman of the group at 10-years-old, and Sammons, Harasimowicz and Keller, who are all nine, clocked in at two minutes 29.86 seconds. The Coveleigh foursome was Molly Bugniazet, Danielle Harrington, Maggie Scala and Elena Perez-Segnini. There was only one trophy so Westchester Country Club was given the top prize.

Meet director Paul McClintock told Coveleigh an order would be placed for a first-place trophy for them.

“The girls were the top seed going in,” said Cavataro of his quartet. “These girls have been swimming together as a group since they came into our program. They are a talented group and they are focused so it was nice to see them achieve this. The last 25 yards was bang-bang, I thought it was a good swim for everyone.”
