Athletes in fall season’s modified and junior varsity programs will take the field in front of family, fans and fellow students between halves of the important battle between the Horsemen and the visiting Garnets with a kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. According to Tarrytown Union Free Schools Athletic Director Chuck Scarpulla the development of younger athletes is a priority as the district looks to the next decade and beyond. “We are getting athletes in all sports from recreation feeder programs (in the villages) and we want to give them the support they need to grow into varsity players,” Scarpulla said. “It will be exciting to have the next generation of kids out there.” The featured game promises to be an exciting one as the Garnets, who defeated the Horsemen last fall in a regular-season meeting, look for some payback. Sleepy Hollow has beaten Rival Ossining and Nyack and is ranked sixth, and Rye defeated Lakeland and Harrison as is third in the Journal News Varsity Insider Class A rankings by Josh Thompson. The Horsemen are led by quarterback Joey Good, with 210 passing yards and four touchdown passes, and running backs Ariel Dejesus (158 yards), Jonathan Gomez (158 yards and two touchdowns) and Mike Fortugno (49 yards and one receiving touchdown). Daniel Chevere has been Good’s favorite receiver with 7 receptions for 125 yards and two scores. The Horsemen defense has held its two opponents to 41 points in two games but will be tested by Rye quarterback Andrew Livingston and running back Tim Degrew.
