RYE, N.Y. -- Rye's Catharine Greer was named to the 2014?15 Capital One Academic All?District Women’s Soccer Teams at Tufts University, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The award recognizes the nation’s top student?athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Greer, a senior co-captain, was named to the District I team for NCAA Division III players. The Rye High School graduate is one of 11 players named in District I, which represents Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. First?team Academic All?District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All?America R Team ballot, where first?, second? and third?team All?America honorees will be selected later this month. Greer is one of just two players from the New England Small College Athletic Conference named to the team. She has been one of the region's top defenders during her four seasons on head coach Martha Whiting's Tufts team. An All-Conference first team selection in 2013 and 2012, Greer was the league's Rookie of the Year and a second team All-Conference pick in 2011. She is a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-New England second teamer (2012-13). This fall, Greer has started 11 of the team's 15 games. Despite missing four games due to an injury, she has tallied a career-high three goals as a defender. The Jumbos are ranked ninth regionally by the NSCAA. Greer is a biology major who is accomplished in pre-veterinary prerequisites. She is a member of Tufts' Pre-Veterinary Society and worked over the summer as an intern at the Mamaroneck Veterinary Hospital . She was an Academic All-NESCAC team member in 2013 and will receive the honor again this fall.
