D’Antoni, who coached the Phoenix Suns in 2004-2008 before coming to the Knicks, where he coached from 2008 to 2012, resigned his Knicks post in the spring after coaching 42 games. D'Antoni also has been an assistant coach for the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team.
Brown began his tenure as Lakers coach at the start of the 2011-12 season, leading Los Angeles to a 41-25 record in the lockout-shortened 66-game season. But the Lakers are off to a 1-4 start this season and have not played well.
Former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw also are rumored as possible replacements, according to ESPN.
