Rye WaveRyeders Win Westchester-Fairfield League Title

RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye YMCA WaveRyeders swim team finished another strong season by capturing the Westchester-Fairfield League Championship and placing 10th at the YMCA State Championships on March 20-22.

The WaveRyeders distinguished themselves at the States with several outstanding individual achievements.

Zachary Pestikov swam his way to state championships for the 8 and under boys in 100-IM and 25-yard backstroke and placed second in the 25-yard breaststroke. Tripp Redd, also an 8 and under boy, was the state champion in 25-yard freestyle. 

Pestikov and Redd, joined by Owen Draddy and Ethan Zhou, came in second place in the 100-yard freestyle relay for their age group. 

Abigail Posner, 8 and under girls, was second in the 50-yard freestyle, second in the 100-yard freestyle and second in the 25-yard breaststroke. Posner was also a member of the 8 and under state championship 100-yard freestyle relay team, which included Maeve Burton, Kayla Lombardo and Megan Tiedemann. 

In the 10 and under age group, Satvik Kukreti was the boys state champion in the 50-yard breaststroke. 

The following swimmers qualified for the finals in the older age groups: Ethan Fuchs, Jackson Haffner, Riley Haffner, Gabriel Hostin, Katie Laverty, Theresa Pace, Luca Quinones and Tate Robinson.
