ARDSLEY, N.Y. Kensico scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Rye 9-8 in a thrilling back-and-forth game Monday in the District 20 11- 12-year-old Little League playoffs.
Kevin Williams slammed a single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive home the game-winning run for Kensico at McDowell Field.
Kensico, which has lost once in the tournament, advanced and will next play an opponent to be determined Thursday, while Rye was eliminated from the double-elimination tournament with two losses.
The teams traded leads early in the game, with Kensico up 2-1 in the second innings, Rye rebounded on a two-run home run by Ryan Ciardello to take a 3-2 lead. The teams were tied at 4-4, 6-6 and 8-8 after six innings and moved to extra innings as light began to fade.
