ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- Ryes early two-run lead didnt hold up Tuesday when White Plains scored two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a 3-2 victory over Rye in the nine and 10-year-old District 20 baseball playoffs at McDowell Field.
White Plains, which has one loss in the double-elimination tournament, moved on to Thursdays semifinal round against Eastchester or Harrison to be played at ORourke Field in Eastchester at 5:45 p.m. Rye suffered its second loss and was eliminated.
Justin Holmans ground ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the last inning scored Mike DiSanto with the winning run as White Plains came back with two runs in the fourth and one in its final at bat to win.
Rye starter Will Tonkel held White Plains scoreless in four innings of work and drove in the games first run. Rick Burke's RBI single gave Rye a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. DiSanto earned the win after relieving White Plains starting pitcher Michael Attonito.
Both teams played really good, said White Plains winning pitcher Mike DiSanto, who scored the winning run. I just tried to throw strikes. We are happy to win.
