Rye Country Day, Masters Reach Fairchester Semis

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Masters School of Dobbs Ferry and Rye Country Day School (Rye) each won its quarterfinal game Wednesday to advance to the semifinal round of the Fairchester Athletic Association postseason boys’ basketball tournament.

Masters, the No. 4 seed, topped No. 5 Hopkins School 71-51 and will meet Connecticut’s Hamden Hall, the No. 1 seed, Friday at Hamden Hall in a semifinal contest.

Tim Reitzenstein led Masters with game highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds and teammates Gregg Brathwaite and Mark Zientek each had 18 points. Brathwaite also grabbed eight rebounds. Masters had a decided edge at the free throw line where the Dragons made 28 free throws in a foul-filled game.

Rye Country Day School, the No. 3 seed defeated Brunswick School 66-62 in the other quarterfinal game and advanced to Friday’s semifinal against No. 7 King School.

The Fairchester championship final is set for Saturday at the higher seed.
