PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The Port Chester Rams' varsity football season concluded on Jan. 28 at a special dinner event held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Westchester in Rye, with about 70 in attendance.

The evening featured player recognition and highlight films. The position coaches spoke speaking about each of their players and presented each player with a plaque detailing his accomplishments and awards from the 2016 season. The coaches also highlighted the senior leadership as well as defining the goals of the team moving forward.

The Most Outstanding Offensive player recognition was awarded to senior Nick Zanetti. The Most Outstanding Defensive Player was awarded to senior Kevin Aguilar and the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player was awarded to senior Rayder Sanchez. Post Season awards provided by Section One included Rayder Sanchez All-conference and Kevin Aguilar All-Section. Both seniors were also selected to play in the Section 1 Exceptional Senior Game.

Throughout the evening, parents, players and guests viewed highlight films as well as a picture slideshow prepared by the coaches and photographer Pete Pezzella.

The night also marked the end of an era for both Marcie DeCarlo, longtime athletic administrative assistant and Mark Santora, longtime JV coach.

DeCarlo was presented with a bouquet of flowers and kind words that best described her support of the teams. Santora who recently guided the JV boys team to a 6-0 season was presented a plaque by longtime assistant coach and friend Andy Matturro to honor his 19 years of coaching football at Port Chester High School. Coach Matturro went on to describe Coach Santora as a person that “bleeds” Ram blue and has helped develop not only himself but countless others into the men they are today. A standing ovation was given to Coach Santora as he stepped up to the podium to receive his award.
