BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville High School's Mary Cain clocked a 2:04.11 in the 800-meter run preliminaries Friday night at the U.S. Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Cain placed fifth in a field of eight runners in Heat 1 of the four heats and failed to qualify for the next round, placing 18th overall. The top three finishers in each heat (12 total) advance to the semifinals along with the next four best finishers for a total of 16. Cain's personal best time of 2:03 would have been good enough to qualify. She was seeded 31 out of 32 in the field.

Cain ran the second-fastest high school girls' 1,500 meters in U.S. history at last week's USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bloomington, Ind., with a 4:14.74, to win the national title. The win earned her a spot in the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona next month.
