HARRISON, N.Y. – Alex Bennett scored late in the first half and Rye’s defense took it from that point on Thursday as the Garnets defeated Harrison, 1-0, in a Section 1 field hockey game.
It was Rye’s second consecutive shutout after playing to a draw against Mamaroneck Wednesday. The Garnets are 8-2-5 on the season and host Bronxville Monday at 6 p.m.
Bennett converted a pass from Vivian Sulliman with 1:20 remaining in the first half.
“Our defense is coming together and starting to click,” Rye coach Emily Fitzgerald said. “Lacey Collins, our goalie, has been playing at a really high level since the Suffern game. This was a hard-fought game against a very well-coached Harrison team.”
The Section 1 Field Hockey Championships seeding meeting will be held Wednesday. The games will begin Thursday. Rye has played for the Section 1 Class B title the last three years.
