WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Rye High School girls basketball team came within two points of the lead in the fourth quarter Wednesday, Feb. 26, before falling to Albertus Magnus High School, 48-37 in the Section 1 Class A semifinals at the County Center.
Albertus, the No. 2 seed, led 18-8 after one quarter and 24-15 at halftime before third-seeded Rye made a run, outscoring Albertus 14-7 to cut the deficit to 31-29 with four minutes to play in the game.
Albertus' Madison McGrath led all scorers with 26 points, including two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that helped extend the lead to 43-33 with 2:40 to play.
Madeline Eck led Rye with 16 points and seven rebounds and teammate Alanna Morque scored 14 and added 10 rebounds.
No. 2 Albertus will meet the winner of the other Class semifinal between No. 1 Beacon and No. 4 Peekskill Saturday at 7 p.m. in the championship game.
