The rankings, which were introduced in 1998, highlight public schools, private universities, and private liberal arts colleges that combine outstanding academics with affordable cost.

Purchase College is listed in the top 10 best values among public colleges.

“We remain dedicated to providing the highest quality education in the liberal arts, sciences, and performing and visual arts," said Thomas J. Schwarz, president of Purchase College. "We are proud to provide an affordable and accessible experience, while nurturing the creative process and open-minded engagement that are the hallmarks of a Purchase education.”

Kiplinger assesses value by measurable standards of academic quality and affordability. Quality measures include admission rate, percentage of students who return for sophomore year, student-faculty ratio, and four-year graduation rate, according to a release from Purchase College.

Cost criteria include sticker price, financial aid and average debt at graduation. Many schools have appeared on the list multiple years in a row, including Purchase College, which is a testament to the consistent value it provides, the release said.

“There’s no way around it: College is expensive, and it’s going to stay that way for a long time," said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. "So, with our rankings—which weigh affordability alongside academic quality—our goal is to help students and their parents understand what’s really worth the price. While some may have ranked higher than others, all 300 schools on the list are of extraordinary value, being chosen out of a universe of 1,200.”

The complete rankings are at kiplinger.com/links/colleges and will appear in print in the February 2017 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

In addition to the Kiplinger’s recognition, Purchase College has recently been included on other significant college ranking lists.

The Princeton Review named Purchase College in its Best 381 Colleges, 2017 Edition, which praised Purchase’s engaged faculty and “unique, passionate, intelligent,” student body, while U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges guide ranked Purchase among the best National Liberal Arts Colleges for 2017.
