Mello is the president of DJM Advisory Services Inc., a telecommunications advisory services firm he founded in 1999, and is among one of Scholarship America’s first scholarship recipients through its flagship Dollars for Scholars program. From 1996-99, Mello served as president of Large Business Sales, North for Bell Atlantic Corp., where he was responsible for all aspects of market and channel management, sales and services for Fortune 500 companies in New York and New England.

Before Bell Atlantic, Mello held a number of senior executive positions with NYNEX Corp., leading a sales force of 10,000 and growing sales of the corporation from $550 million to $1 billion. Mello has served as board director for a number of telecommunications and community organizations, including Nx Networks, E-Doctor, Ixnet, Paradigm4, Eyecast and Telexis (now March). He currently serves on the boards of the David E. Redik and Christopher D. Mello Foundation, the Westchester chapter of the National Football Hall of Fame and the Rye YMCA.

“I’m so excited about joining Scholarship America, because it touches places that people don’t realize. As one of the organization’s earliest scholarship recipients, I know firsthand that scholarships go beyond dollars. They galvanize students to be better and strive for more,” said Mello.

“I am delighted to have one of Scholarship America’s first scholarship recipients share his counsel and talents with our board. Doug will be a great asset to Scholarship America, as we work to achieve the organization’s strategic goals,” said Lauren A. Segal, president and CEO of Scholarship America. Mello holds a B.A. in history and economics from Boston College and a degree in advanced management development from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
