Rye Teachers Work To Enhance Reading Instruction

RYE, N.Y. -- Sharon Taberski, a leader in professional development with a focus on early reading instruction, has been working with students and teachers in grades K through 2 in all three of Rye’s elementary school.

Her sessions have centered on guided reading and the reading workshop approach to teaching in small group settings. This strategy is part of the district's "Balanced Literacy" approach and supports the Common Core.

Taberski models lessons in the classrooms, giving teachers the opportunity to observe her techniques in action.

She has been a teacher for 28 years and has authored several books, including "Comprehension from the Ground Up." In her DVD set she walks educators through ways to enhance comprehension.
