RYE, N.Y. - Rye High School senior Henry Pearson has been named a candidate in the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholars program.
Pearson was selected to the prestigious program based on his academic accomplishments. In addition to scoring high on his SAT and ACT tests, he also has a rigorous schedule with several Advance Placement and honors courses, including an extensive study of Chinese.
Pearson is also active in sports, music and community service. He plays squash, is No. 1 on the Varsity team ladder and participated in the 2012 High School Nationals. He can play several instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, baritone and bass guitar. His band has played at several school events and is compiling its second CD. He works in the community with underprivileged children.
About 3,700 out of 3 million graduating seniors are named Presidential Scholar candidates. It is considered one of the highest honors a graduating senior can achieve. Pearson now has the option of applying for the semifinalist level and could advance to final Scholar status. Semifinalists will be announced in April.
