Rye Passes 2013-14 School Budget

RYE, N.Y. -- Rye voters approved the 2013-14 school budget in Tuesday's election and elected Katy Keohane Glassberg and Nicole Weber to the Board of Education.

The budget was passed with 1,434 votes in favor and 406 against. Incumbent Glassberg received 1,305 votes and newcomer Weber received 1,037 votes. Bob Zahm, who was also running for one of the two open seats on the board, was defeated with 854 votes.

The approved budget for the 2013-14 school year is $76.7 million, a 4.32 percent increase over the previous year's budget of $73.5 million. The tax levy will increase 4.65 percent and the tax rate will increase 4.59 percent.
