The students were chosen by a combination of academic records, school curriculum and grading system, test scores, written recommendations, participation in activities and leadership, and essays.

The RHS students – all seniors - are: Morgan Cobban, William Costine, Judson Ellis, Caleb Glassberg, Bonnie Gould, Amelia Haddad, Charles Hager, Chloe Jennings, Rebecca Jordan, Min Kyo Kim, Kiefer Mueller, Samuel Papert, Daniel Philip and JiCi Wang.

They are among roughly 10,000 students nationwide who are now eligible for scholarship awards, and 8,000 finalists will earn a scholarship sometime this spring. The National Merit Scholarship Program has been in existence since 1955.

The students earned semifinalist honors due to their PSAT test scores last fall and were honored with Rye Recognition of Excellence awards at a Board of Education meeting, along with 17 National Merit Commended students and two National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars.
