Rye High, Middle School Students Return To School Following Bomb Threat

RYE, N.Y. -- Rye students returned to school around mid day Monday after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of both the high and middle schools around 9:30 a.m.

Rye police said Rye City School District at 9:32 a.m. received a bomb threat written on a bathroom wall. The threat was found inside the High School in a second floor bathroom.

The schools were safely evacuated and the Rye Police Department along with the Westchester County Police Department Hazardous Device Unit checked the entire facility and deemed it safe.  The students and faculty were then allowed to return to the school.

Rye Police and the Westchester County Police Departments are investigating.  Anyone with information that would be helpful to the investigation please contact the Rye Police Department at 914-967-1234 or online .

Updated story No. 1 at 10:30 a.m.:

RYE, N.Y. -- All students at Rye Middle and High School were safely evacuated after a bomb threat Monday morning.

Superintendent Frank Alvarez said County and Rye Police are on the scene and combing the building. Students will be bused back to campus once the "all-clear" has been issued.

He sent an email to parents shortly before 10 a.m. that said all students were currently being evacuated from the building. Police are on the way.

Parents were asked to not attempt to pick up their child and more information would be released as it becomes available.
