Rye Field Hockey Players Honored for Academics

RYE, N.Y. -- The School of the Holy Child announced today that six players on the Varsity Field Hockey Team were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) 2011 National Academic Squad.

The six honorees, all seniors, are Helen Brosnan of Larchmont, Catherine Anne Gray of Rye, Mary Clare Manfred of Tarrytown, Paige Kennedy and Jessica Cordasco of Eastchester and Molly Fitzwilliam of Stamford, Conn.

The NFHCA is a non-profit organization that aims to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those high school seniors who have achieved a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 through the first quarter of the 2011-12 school year.

School of the Holy Child Director of Athletics John Pizzi said that each student was integral to the team's overall success.

"We are proud of our talented student-athletes, who distinguish themselves on the playing field while excelling in classroom,” Pizzi said in a press release on Monday. “Tremendous discipline and dedication are required to achieve such a feat.”

Over the past two seasons, varsity field hockey has accumulated a record of 23-13-3, making it all the way to the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) semi-final and finals.
