Rye Country Day School Named U.S. Green Ribbon School

RYE, N.Y. -- Rye Country Day School was named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education for its efforts to reduce environmental impact and support sustainability.

The award was announced by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, along with the Chair of White House Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley and Acting Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency Bob Persiacepe.

"I commend you for your commitment to environmental stewardship, health, and sustainability and for inspiring your entire school community to aim high," Duncan said. "You are representative of best practices to improve achievement and equity, not only for aspiring ‘green schools’ but for all schools."

RCDS is one of 64 schools to receive the distinction, and one of only three in New York. Schools were awarded for working to lower environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of students and staff, and provide environmental and sustainability education. A recognition ceremony honoring the schools will take place on June 3 in Washington, DC.
