Rye-Area Districts Rank Among State's Best

RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye City School District was recently ranked the second-best district in New York State, according to education website Niche.

Niche compiled data on all public school districts and graded them in eight metrics:

  • Academics
  • Health and safety
  • Parent and student surveys
  • Student culture and diversity
  • Teachers
  • Resources and facilities
  • Extracurriculars
  • Sports and fitness

Rye was the top rated school system in Westchester County. It received grades of A+ in the Academics, Health, Teachers, Resources and Sports categories. 

The district of over 3,000 students also has 72 percent of the population proficient in both math and reading, according to state standards. 

Blind-Brook-Rye Union Free also cracked the top 25 at No. 18. 

The top rated district in the state was Jericho Union Free School District in Long Island.

  • Scarsdale Union Free, No. 5
  • Edgemont Union Free, No. 6
  • Byram Hills, No. 7
  • Bronxville Union Free, No. 10
  • Ardsley Union Free, No. 12
  • Briarcliff Union Free, No. 16
  • Rye Neck Union Free, No. 19 
  • Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free, No. 21
  • Mamaroneck Union Free, No. 24.
