MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Students from Rye Neck High School’s advanced placement Spanish class toured Fordham University recently, visiting the Modern Language and Literature departments and participating in a college-level Spanish lesson.

The teens - all students in Lina Carolini-Cannavo’s advanced class - attended an Approaches to Hispanic Literature course, where they learned about Gabriel García Márquez's “Crónica de una muerte anunciada” (Chronicle of a Death Foretold), according to a statement from Rye Neck High School.

“The students were able to fully participate and engage in the lesson because they are studying the same literary work,” Carolini-Cannavo said in the statement.

While touring the Bronx campus, the students spoke to college professors about expectations and the importance of studying a foreign language and studying abroad, according to the high school.

“The students left more comfortable, confident and excited for college,” Carolini-Cannavo said. “It was a valuable and interesting experience that helped bridge the gap between high school and college.”
