RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye City School District will welcome 13 new teachers in 2014, who Daily Voice will feature leading up to the opening of school Sept. 4.

The first two are Amanda Albano, a Rye High School English teacher, and Lisa-Marie DiRusso, a Rye Middle School special education teacher.

Albano joins Rye after serving as a middle school English language arts teacher at Our Lady of Fatima in Connecticut, where she implemented the ELA curriculum in grades 6?8.

She previously was a graduate assistant at Pace University and teaching assistant at Fordham University, managing a website for a virtual class and leading grammar sessions for students, among other responsibilities. Albano earned both her bachelor of arts master of arts degrees from Fordham University.

DiRusso is a familiar face in the district, having served as a substitute teacher for elementary and special education classes and coach for the crew, junior varsity lacrosse, modified track and field hockey teams.

She previously held roles in Pennsylvania with Valley Forge Educational Services, the Morrisville School District, and Council Rock School District.

DiRusso has additional background as a special needs life skill coach. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Pennsylvania State University.
