RYE, N.Y. - School of the Holy Child senior and Harrison resident Kathleen Samuelson is one of four nominees for a $5,000 scholarship courtesy of ESPN New York and Melrose Credit Union. The winner is slated to be announced in the coming weeks.
The scholarship is awarded to one college bound scholar-athlete who excels on the field, in the classroom, and throughout the community. The nominees were selected between September and November of last year.
"(Samuelson is) a great leader and a role model on and off the field," Holy Child Athletic Director John Pizzi released in a statement.
Samuelson is a member of Holy Child's varsity softball, field hockey, and basketball teams, all while carrying a 4.14 GPA. Samuelson has plans to attend Brown University in the fall, where she will play softball for the Bears.
Currently the Harrison resident is a member of the National Honor Society, serves as student body president, participates in Model United Nations, and plays the trumpet in the school's instrumental ensemble.
Believe it or not, Samuelson still manages to find time to give back to her community by volunteering at the Ward Summer Learning Camp, Part of the Solution (POTS), Dinner at Noon, Homework Helpers, and Resurrection Parish Religious Education Program (PREP).
