Holy Child In Rye Unveils New Limestone Sculpture

RYE, N.Y. -- A seven-foot limestone sculpture entitled Spirit is now a permanent feature on the School of the Holy Child campus in Rye.

The community-wide project is the brainchild of the school’s Artist-in-Residence Satish Joshi, a Yonkers resident who collaborated with more than 30 students and their families, alumnae, staff, faculty and past parents to bring the limestone to life.

Joshi said he was thrilled members of the community got involved in the project, especially during the hot summer months. “It was wonderful to have so many members of the community involved,'' he said. "For the students, it was a unique opportunity to learn monumental stone carving.”

The Berardi Family, whose daughter Julia graduated from Holy Child in 2015, funded the project.

The Spirit sculpture reflects the extraordinary artistic talents of Holy Child students and the continual support of school's friends and families, past and present. “To me, the sculpture is a reflection of the SHC community and the Spirit that is always evident here,” Joshi said.

“Spirit is not only a lasting testament to the exceptional talent and dedication of our student-artists, it also exemplifies the community spirit and support that make our school the wonderful place it is,'' said Kim Calhoun, Holy Child's Director of The Arts.
