The school sent students ages 9-11 to Challenge Camp for the week of July 13. The students are participating in the Challenge Camp curriculum, which complements the coursework of the Shanghai Xuhui Aiju Primary School.

The Chinese students are enrolled in the Challenge Camp program for one week at School of the Holy Child in Harrison. The students are completely integrated into camp life, joining in all the courses based on their interests. As part of this initiative, the campers receive an immersion into American life and customs by staying with Challenge Camp host families.

This is the fourth summer of the Shanghai Xuhui Aiju Primary School and Challenge Camp cultural exchange, and both schools are benefit from this partnership.

Challenge Camp director Carole B. Berman said: “We are delighted that the students from the Shanghai Xuhui Aiju Primary School will join us again for Challenge Camp 2015. They bring a different perspective to fun learning, and our students enjoy integrating them into their camp experience.”

The Shanghai Xuhui Aiju Primary School was established by entrepreneur Haoqin Liu and his wife, Aiju Kong, in 1993. The school emphasizes art and music and offers courses in English or French for international students, taught by foreign teachers.

To further develop and enhance the school’s curriculum; students are involved in exchange programs and collaborative relationships with schools in the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand.

Challenge Camp is an American Camp Association-accredited program celebrating its 35th year of offering summer enrichment learning opportunities. The camp was founded by the Gifted and Talented Development Center of Bronxville in 1981 with a mission of providing opportunities for children to realize their intellectual and personal potential.

Challenge Camp has devoted itself to education, enlightenment and academic enrichment while providing a comprehensive athletic experience resulting in a complete summer challenge.

School of the Holy Child is the only all-girls, Catholic, independent, college preparatory school in Westchester County that provides individualized education for grades five-12.
