Blind Brook High School Graduates 93 Seniors

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Blind Brook High School graduated 93 Seniors before a packed house of parents, friends and other community members Thursday evening at SUNY Purchase's Performing Arts Center.

Superintendent William Stark opened his remarks quoting from Robert Frost's famous poem "The Road Not Taken" and speaking about the "test" of life.

"If you do well, according to my scoring system, you can score over one hundred," Stark said. "At any rate, remember you have only one time to take this test. Study hard. In this test, taking the examination can be as enjoyable as the grade you receive."

The keynote speaker was Wall Street Journal columnist and Blind Brook High School graduate Daniel Barbarisi, who currently covers the New York Yankees. He spoke about the humanity of professional athletes and the importance of enduring failure.

"Blind Brook has done a wonderful job of preparing you for the next step," Barbarisi said. "Now it's up to you guys to embrace those challenges, to never be afraid of failing."

Class speaker Sydney Grau asked her fellow graduates to picture themselves on the top of a playground slide, and equated that feeling of fear and excitement to the freedom and uncertainty of graduation.

"Now it's time to picture your slide and get ready to take that plunge," Grau said. "There is a new class waiting behind us, and when you let go, know it will be the best ride of your life."

The ceremony was also highlighted by performances from the Blind Brook High School band and the graduating seniors in the school's chorus.
