A GoFundMe page said 16-year-old Charlie Omrod was in a car with three friends when it crashed into a tree due to "hazardous conditions and severe fog" on Friday, Jan. 26.
Middle Township police said it happened on Swainton-Goshen Road near Green Holly Campground just before 9 p.m.
More than $6,000 was raised from at least 135 donations on Omrod's GoFundMe page as of Monday, Jan. 29.
The fundraiser page said Omrod was in the front passenger seat and "took the main impact of the tree."
"Charlie's injuries are a traumatic brain injury of the right side, skull fractures, brain bleed, along with a fractured leg," according to the GoFundMe. "He is currently still recovering from a dirt bike injury from six months ago that had caused skull fractures to the left side of his head and caused brain bleeding. This is a very tragic and serious impact on the whole family."
The GoFundMe page also said Omrod was placed into a medically induced coma as he underwent five hours of surgery to stop his brain bleed and to remove fractured pieces of his skull. He was woken up from the coma and he was able to get "up and moving around."
Police said an officer performed CPR to revive the driver, who was unconscious after the crash. The driver was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division in Atlantic City, and is listed in critical condition with a head injury.
Omrod was taken to Cooper Medical Center. Two other passengers were treated at Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House and they're expected to survive their injuries.
Middle Township police are continuing to investigate the crash.
