POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Investigators are looking into the cause of an apartment building fire that put 21 occupants out of their homes early Sunday, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson told the Journal on Monday officials have determined the blaze at 7 N. Hamilton St. started behind an empty apartment on the first floor.

The fire's "exact cause" is still being investigated, said the Poughkeepsie Journal.
