Hannigan was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of James and Frances Hannigan. He graduated from St. Agnes High School and attended Brooklyn College with a concentration in business. He served as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard. He was an accountant with major companies such as Eastern Airlines and Stolt Nielsen.
Hannigan is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, James Hannigan (Cheryl) of Southbury, Michael E. Hannigan Sr. of Danbury and Robert Hannigan (Lori) of Danbury; daughter, Betty Wendel and her fiancé, Jack Duva, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
