Trains Running to New Canaan; Danbury Line Stalled

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Metro-North trains are running on regular schedules in the main New Haven Line and the New Canaan Branch after service was suspended because of Tropical Storm Irene and the damage it caused over the weekend.

Service was set to resume Wednesday morning on the Waterbury Branch. But the Danbury Branch, which runs through Danbury, Bethel, Redding, Ridgefield, Wilton and Norwalk, remained out of service.

According to the Metro-North website, crews continue to work around-the-clock to restore service on the Danbury Branch and said efforts are hampered by widespread power outages that make many grade crossings inoperable.

As with the other train lines, after all repair efforts, patrol trains must run to ensure the safety of the tracks before service returns.
