Michael Haid, 78, Norwalk Engineer

NORWALK, Conn. – Michael T. Haid, a former Norwalk resident, died June 15 at Legacy Heights in Charlotte, N.C. He was 78. 

Born in New York City, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Montgomery Haid. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Haid served in Germany after World War II. He was married to Mildred "Lee" Krajcik, who predeceased him.

A retired engineer, Haid designed custom machinery. He enjoyed sailing, flying remote controlled airplanes, going on family vacations and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Haid is survived by a son, Steven (Laura) Haid, of Bolton, Mass.; a daughter, Michelle (Steve) Jegier, of Charlotte and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Bill (Kathleen) Haid and Dave (Blanche) Haid; a sister, Mary (Bill) Caruso and many nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Norwalk. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
