YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano looks to be the next person to run for Senate in the 37th District.

According to the Daily News,  Spano is expected to announce he will seek the Democratic nomination for the seat vacated by George Latimer when he ascends to Westchester County Executive. Spano has two years left on his final term as Yonkers mayor.

Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer (D-Yonkers) announced last week she is running for the seat. Kat Brezler, a White Plains resident, and a Democrat has also announced her candidacy for the 37th Senate District.

The 37th Senate District covers the cities of New Rochelle, Rye, White Plains, Yonkers and the towns of Harrison, Bedford, Mamaroneck, North Castle, Rye, Eastchester.
